Spinges is not far from Bressanone/Brixen and situated at the intersection of the Eisack, Wipp and Puster Valley. The village invites you to excursions into the surrounding countryside. The following are a number of tips and ideas, never mind whether you want to discover the mountain world, are interested in culture or whether you look for some of these ’real’ moments:
- The bishops town of Bressanone/Brixen is the oldest town in the entire Alpine region and famous for its Baroque cathedral and historic town centre. Beside the castle, there are a number of places worth seeing, such as the Diocean and Crip museum …..and lots of shops.
- At the Neustift Cloisters, Abbazia di Novacella you can enjoy the church library with its small and large books, as well as the church which was built in Rococo style and the adjacent herb garden. The shop presents you with wine produced in the cloister and a wide variety of sweets. Neustift Cloisters was built on the intersection of the North-South / East-West route of the famous Jacob’s Road.
- Chiusa/Klausen was made famous by Albrecht Dürer, who visited this small town in 1494. Even today, it is popular as a city for the arts. The town museum with the Loreto treasure, as well as Cloister Säben, thrones over the town, are famous destinations.
- Castle Velturno/ Velthurns in Velturno/Feldthurns was once the summer residence of the Earl-Bishops of Bressanone/Brixen. Today, it is open to the public and is used for exhibitions, a variety of musical events, as well as an outdoor theatre.
- Rodengo/Rodeneck Fortress presents you with the oldest frescoes in the German-speaking region of Europe. It dates back to the beginning of the 13th Century.
- Loden World in Vandoies/Vintl: The town is home to the history and production of the traditional ‘Loden’ (a type of Alpine costume and popular fabric).
- The Gilfenklamm: A very impressive rocky ravine near Vipiteno/Sterzing. The small village of Stange is the starting point for hiking trips. The ascent is about one kilometre long and leads to Mareta/Mareit, where the Country Museum for Hunting and Fishing has found its home at Castle Wolfsthurn. Visitors are welcome.
- Funes/Villnöß is situated at the foot of the Puetz-Geisler Nature Park. The impressive Geisler Peaks invite you to a broad variety of hiking and climbing trips. The Saint Magdalene Chapel is also worth seeing.
- The town of Brunico/Bruneck with Castle Bruneck and the Messner Mountain Museum: The town is known for its buzz and therefore, very popular. A little outside town, you will find Castle Bruneck and the fifth museum created by our famous Reinhold Messner, MMM – Messner Mountain Museum RIPA.
- For more than 100 years, Bergila in Issing (Falzes) has produced authentic oils (distilled) in the traditional way. A real treat!
- In Terento, you can visit the 500 year old corn mills. During the summer months, the mills are open and work on Monday mornings. The central hiking path also passes the famous earth pyramids.
- According to the ADAC leisure atlas, the Dietenheim Folk Museum is one of the most beautiful outdoor museums in Europe. There, you can see old farmhouses and workshops, which give insight into a variety of farm types and housing.
